Snyder County, Pennsylvania, not Centre County. I have photos of the children of Samuel and Catherine (Sassaman) Yearick plus photos of the children of their oldest son, Jonas. I also have a photo of Catherine Sassaman and am missing one of Samuel.
The name Yearick is a study in itself. Probably derived from Jörg but could have been Jurg, or Jerg. Some folks believe it was Gorg or Georg as that is how English speakers in the 18th century wrote it. Today Jörg and George are more or less synonymous.
My paternal Grandmother was Pearl Yearick born in Cumming Nebraska. Her father was Jerimiah, twin to Isreal, sons of William. William's father was Adam, first Yearick in Centre Co. PA. It is strongly suspected that Adam came from Lowhill Twp., Lehigh Co., PA. and his father came from Germany on the Rowand in Sept 1754.
The following biographies are from the Washington County IA Portrait and Biographical Album. It is available at the following web site. As a side note, many of the photos in the album that S. Yearick came from were taken by Samuel Armstrong, who was married to Alice Yearick dau of Henry and Mary Damude Yearick.
My line is spelled without the “a”-YERRICK. Benjamin Franklin Yearick had such poor penmanship is the reason given for the change.
My line goes like this: Linda Ludwig Irish (me); Ruth Adah Lanphear Ludwig; Helen Maude Yerrick Lanphear; Harry LeRoy Yerrick; Benjamin Franklin Yerrick; Samuel Yearick; Jacob Yearick; Adam Georg Yerk and Johann G. Georg (e).
Do any of you know where these people might fit in? I don’t know of any coming from Mifflinburg. My Jacob Yearick was born in 1801 in Centre township, PA.
